Tecplot SDK
For Developers
Tecplot SDK Success Stories
Pursuing State-of-the-Art Visualization
Problem: Synopsys needed to give their users high quality graphics
to visualize their TCAD results in 2D and 3D. They needed to bring a solution to
market quickly but estimated it would take at least two years to develop it and
two new developers to support it.
Synopsys is a leading provider of Technology Computer-Aided Design (TCAD) modeling
and simulation software. Semiconductor manufactures around the world use TCAD to
support the design and manufacturing of integrated circuits.
Solution: After evaluating several tools, Synopsys chose to integrate
Tecplot SDK into its code. With Tecplot SDK, Synopsys went to market in 4 months.
“It would have taken enormous effort and time to create, maintain and support something
similar to the Tecplot SDK,” Peter adds. “Development of a tool based on a graphics
library would have taken at least two person years, and the ongoing maintenance
would require at least two full time developers.” With Tecplot SDK, they needed
just four person-months to develop a new visualization component for TCAD. “Tecplot
is a huge step forward,” says Peter. “Our customers finally have instant access
to powerful visualization.”
Getting the Development Edge
Problem: Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) engineers were seeking
to better understand device performance, leading Coventor to find the most accurate,
stable, and well-documented visualization capabilities available.
Coventor, Inc. is a leading provider of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)
design tools. Their software is used by the major suppliers of MEMS-enabled products
to develop and simulate the complex physics of MEMS devices.
Ken Greiner, a senior engineer at Coventor, who led the visualization development
effort, explains, “We were looking for easy integration and broad visualization
functionality. Tecplot solutions are robust and offer maximum capability and flexibility.
We were excited at the prospect of integrating it into our Visualizer software.”
Solution: Tecplot solutions gave Coventor the visualization capabilities
it wanted plus bolstered the productivity and efficiency of Coventor’s development
staff.
“Tecplot software already has most of the functionality we need, so it requires
much less development work than AVS Express, the visualization software we used
previously,” Greiner says. “This allowed us to devote greater development resources
to areas of the software where we add unique value as MEMS experts.”
CoventorWare users have also given positive reviews to Tecplot. “Our customers get
the benefit of using a mature, well-known product instead of an in-house tool,”
Greiner explains. “Many have commented on the increase in functionality available
with Tecplot software solutions.”
